This is a shout out to all women who raise businesses and babies!
I aspire to the type of role model I needed as a child. Role models are like shining lights that inspire you to be the best version of yourself. That torch of light has always been my mum. She is actually too kind for this world, the utmost optimist, to the extent where maybe it’s a little crazy, but my mum has most certainly always been my biggest cheerleader. What I love about role models is that they help you discover your strengths. We seem so focused on building in our inabilities, that we lose focus of the stuff we are naturally good at. Playing to your strengths is the most under stated goal. Being a mum boss is the best! Once you get past feeling guilty for wanting to both be a fabulous mum, and a successful entrepreneur. You realize that leading by example is the best thing you can teach your child. Hard work is so rewarding morally, and to all who have ambition. I have changed industries four times in my career, and I have reflected in gratitude each time that I had mentors who supported me to be brave and ambitious. All the career journeys I have had to date have been valuable in shaping the type of boss and leader I desire to be. I love it when my daughter Penny comes into the office and sees me working, sees my team working hard, and for her to conceptualize that mummy is trying to achieve something. For me the pursuit of having a go is way more important than the outcome. Everything will not result in victory, however, every attempt gets you closer. I am thankful to have a healthy business, an awesome team and unbelievable clients and partners who love working with us.
To all the mum bosses out there, well done, we are shaping the equality ladder one day at a time. Rome was not built in a day, actually it took 450 years for it to grow from a small town on central Italy’s Tiber river into an empire!
